Silver tops still wandering

Last day in Salerno and we did very little. Checked out the bus route to the station. We actually stayed on the bus too long and ended up in the industrial zone.

We were then politely asked to leave the bus. I quote ‘ go, go, finish, finish, go ,go’.

We went across to the bus stop on the other side of the road and were bustled away by workmen. I find the Italian art of gesticulation quite scary!!!

We found a bus stop and waited for a bus, which came and didn’t stop for us!

We did get back to our apartment but the events of the morning required a lie down.

Pedestrian crossings are simply there so the traffic can aim for you.

Salerno has been wonderful, except for what occurs on the roads. It is compulsory to drive with your mobile phone, text, talk and honk your horn all at the same time. This ruling applies equally to anything on two wheels aswell. It is quite beyond our understanding that we have only seen one accident. Even then much honking was undertaken because the ambulance was partially blocking the road! Everybody just sounds really cross all of the time!

My only other beef, yep you guessed it, the busses! Nowhere is there a route map, or a person (drivers espcially) who gives a #@*! when asked where they are going. First time travel buddy and I haven’t completely mastered the local public transport! In honesty I don’t think even the locals have it sussed. At least they can do animated, cross sounding conversations with the drivers!

Our plan to get to the station in the morning is to rock up to the local bus stop at 0615, and flag down every bus that passes and ask ‘station central’ in our best Italian. Train leaves at 0738! I do so hope the next instalment comes to you from Lecce!
