We have actually arrived into Salerno. We expected to be frolicking around in our swimming costumes and slapping on the factor 50. As per … shades of Bled when it snowed in May, we have very unseasonal weather! Travel buddy is wearing ever so many clothes!

So, we had a plan. Into the old town and then to an information place so we could learn about the busses. But we got distracted. Those who followed my blog when we last went inter railing , we kept bumping onto marathons.
Well today we set off and realised eventually, that the road was closed. ‘Blimey’ says I. ‘Not another marathon surely?’ Curiosity, also referred to as nosey, we make no apologies, got the better of us. So we hung around. Never seen so many police cars and motorbikes with their ‘nee naws’ going.

Turns out we were in the right place at the right time to see the Giro D’Italia.

Off they pedalled up towards Vesuvious! We waited 2 hours for 1 minute of ‘action’.
After the ‘event’ we about turned and walked back to our apartment via the supermarket. Bought salad for lunch and had a lay down!
Weather really is pants! Blowing an absaloute hooley, and lightening, and rain, and mist and no sunshine! So we sulked for a short while then took ourselves out for tea!

These amazing pizzas were 7 euros each. A far cry from the prices in Florence! A cheeky chilled white is cheap as chips 3 to 4 euros for a really good wine! Travelling buddy thinks this may well be a good place to live. The locals are friendly and after Florence, the lack of tourists is welcome. We didn’t make it to our planned destination today on account of the thighs and bottoms pedalling by, but we will go to the harbour and old town tomorrow. There seems to be a cruise ship in every day, full of cruise ship people (!). We are trying to find a cheap and cheerful boat trip to look at all of the things along the coast.

So long for today. Who knows what Friday will bring … apart from my state pension!
