Lucca.

Honestly, never heard of it. Geographical knowing is not my forte. Now I know where it is on the map, how to get there (and back) from Florence, and I can wax lyrical about how charming and lovely it is.

This little gem of a place has an old town completely enclosed by ancient walls. One of the main attractions is an old developement built on an amphetheatre. Travel buddy and managed not to find this! Which by all accounts was quite a thing. Can’t miss it … we did!

I deployed my new trick of tagging inconspicuously to the back of the ‘flag people’ to try and find out about this spectacular building and tower. They were notspeaking English so no information to report. Travel buddy says ‘Google it’ but I prefer my covert eaves dropping!

We walked through the old town then around the walls. Walking in circles is confusing and we did kind of mis place ourselves looking for the station.

Happy to report we found ourselves and journeyed back to Florence uneventfully. We even hopped onto a tram to get back to out apartment. How good are we? With a nod to our combined age of 145, we are having a day off tommorrow. Stroppy knees and bonky hip say so. These two of my well documented afflictions have been enthusiastically joined by ‘mythering back’. I know it is a privilage to get old, just tricky to adjust your head to a changing body when you are apt to think of yourself as 26!
