I’m Awake!!

So, I am back. I did complete my Canadian adventure, I watched the trees turn to the most amazing colours

‘Fall’

I then said ‘au revoir’ to my very loved ones …

Very Loved

Then, taking a leaf from the bears I promptly put myself into hibernation. I am most certainly not designed to winter in the Northern Hemisphere. I hate the dark nights , the cold and the grey skies.

So, come March … like now … I am emerging into spring time, with a short break in the Yorkshire Dales. I am re-tracing steps taken many years ago when I lived locally. My heart belongs to Scotland, but the ‘Dales’ makes my soul sing and my heart soar.

I have enjoyed revisiting some of my old haunts and stomping grounds.

Malham.

A walk up to the cove is mandatory, as is four seasons in a couple of hours.

It blew a hooley and hailstoned on us with black skies and then within thirty minutes we had blue skies and sunshine.

The following day I really did take a trip down memory lane with a wonderful train journey from Skipton to Carlisle. I spent my formative years in this beautiful city. Currently being revamped in the centre, but the land marks I spent many happy hours exploring as a young teenager endure unspoiled.

West Walls Walk
En route to the park
Tullie Museum.

I spent hours looking around this museum growing up. I was fascinated by the exhibits and the Roman Heritage.

The Grounds

There were always relics dotted around the gardens, and they are still there over 50 years later…though the trees have grown.

Carlisle Castle, as it always was, and will be.
A walk to Bitts Park.

This park was a real treat to go to and is now much improved, it continues to be enjoyed and in the sunshine it was looking lovely. I didn’t photograph the children ‘larking’.  The tennis courts have gone posh, but sad to see the old park keepers house from the early nineteen hundreds all boarded up.

School walking route.

I walked to my secondary school through this underpass next to the river for years. It flooded to a depth of over five feet in the winter of 2005.

The views on the walk to and from School
The road home, the river walk.
Spring is coming …
Displaced?

Wasn’t expecting a herd of ‘Highlands’ on the ride back to our hotel.

All in all a wonderful week exploring old haunts and visiting new ones. I thoroughly reccommend a visit to the Black Sheep Brewery. Now I know why it is called Black Sheep … and I am not telling …. would hate to spoil the tour for anybody else.

I am off to Scotland tomorrow, so I will continue…

Wrote a comment but it’s disappeared!! Looks like you had a lovely week. Your photos are very good. I have fond memories of Carlisle although I don’t know it as well as you. Last time I was there was in April 2019 when walking the wall!!
