Against what many would condsider unfavourable odds, we did eventually arrive in Budapest, all be it very tired and incredibly hungry. Despite our diligent planning we had failed to realise we would be leaving Llubjana on a National Holiday. Eveything was closed and without our breakfast pack up from our hotel in Bled we would have been much dizzier than usual.
We have had four wonderful days. The sun has shone and the shorts are out. We have been thoroughly spolied by our lovely hosts. Entertainment laid on for us with visits to restaurants serving fabulous food. We even went to an Irish Pub quiz night. Pipped to the post by only 2 points.

We have walked miles, usually uphill. but the wam sunshine has meant that ‘stroppy hip’ along with co-conspirators, ‘dodgy knees’ have behaved far better than they did in the snow and cold of Slovenia. So as a special reward they have been taken two days running to the thermal baths. Much busier and way more commercialised than when I visited sixteen years ago, but still a great way to spend a suuny day.

The parks are funky, with a rare combination of statues and adornments. This one at the top of Gelert Hill appealed to me.

Not a Scooby Doo what the building is. We wandered up towards the castle in the evening sunshine and I was lucky enogh to catch the ‘golden hour’ on this magnificent roof.

Looking for a pub.

And so to Batislavia, with our sandwiches, lessons learned, travelling on May Day so all equipped. Medicinal hip flasks replenished, back packs once again in order, a plan, a purchased train ticket. Off we pop…
