France

Riding in trains is unpredictable. We were so well fed and watered in our first class seats, until we entered France. To travel first class in France you have to be mute! Can you believe we have been repeatedly ‘shushed’, simply for having a conversation above a whisper? This of course sent us into giggles and snorts which then produced further complaints. We have offended the French and practically caused an international incident.

We arrived in Vierzon in the dark, and in true French style, the town was completely shut and deserted. I did my usual giro topple which resulted in a 7 minute walk to our accomodation taking 48 minutes…and us being well and truly locked out. We did eventually gain entry our help to do so being obviously thrilled to have to turn out to see to the needs of couple of ‘mad old bats’.

A wee nip from our medicinal hip flasks, and a cup of tea later all was just grand. A sleep and off we went again Carcasonne bound. The next 2 days were blissfull. Hosted and spoiled to bits by the absaloutely adorable Mo and Chris, we then had to face the reality of French trains again! Had it not been for our over stuffed croissants generously supplied by our hosts, we would surely have collapsed with low blood sugar. We prevailed.

We are now in Italy, a first for me. Very relaxed and easy going, we haven’t been told off once. We have frequented two bars and a restuarant, had a cracking meal, drank limontcello, some wine and maybe a cheeky beer…well yes a cheeky beer. Nobody told us off or made us stand in the naughty corner. We like Italy very much. Verona here we come …
