Silver tops still wandering

This is a place called Candres. A lovely little seaside village where we enjoyed a good lunch whilst we waited to check into our scheduled two night stay. To add perspective I must say, we have been raking around France, Spain and Portugal now for about 5 weeks and we have had wondeful meals, amazing accommodation with lovely hosts. I guess you could be forgiven for presuming that we were well overdue a ‘howler’. We got it! Oh my and what a ‘howler’ it was. I consider myself blessed not to come away either fried by the electrics or inflicted with ‘damp lung’.

I am not going to say much, except that it was a disappointment of stratospheric proportions. We drank beer and wine to endure the first night, then packed up at dawn and slunk off to Santander. Our unplanned stop did however bring us some wonderful surprises. Not least of which was our overnight accommodation. Back on track with a lovely apartment just north of Santander, a lunch stop at Llandes en route was a real find, a true gem. The sea food was to die for.

Emergency overnight accommodation in Santander. That’s us right at the top with a balcony and beautiful Bougainvillea to admire. I will not post any photos of said ‘howler’, but Booking are in receipt of a stinging review. Not that they care very much.

All is well that ends well. We got to walk along the beach a little bit. Mrs. Russell is most unwelcome in a lot of places. Could be because, doing our very British thing of ‘picking up’ after your pooch seems not to happen in Spain. No wonder dogs are banned from so many places.

They are preserving the sand dunes here by growing the reeds to counteract the invasive plant species that have become so prolific as to threaten the ecology of this area.

Any road up, enough of my learning stuff. San Sebastian awaits us.

Anchors away, and off we pop, if we can get Mrs. Russell off her back and onto her four paws.
