Bled

I had a vision of my feet dangling off the dock in the cooling waters of the lake in my shorts. This has not quite come to fruition. Betfred has sent word that no further wagers on my wearing of shorts will be accepted. After a short excursion, dressed in multiple layers, we couldn’t get back to our cosy room quickly enough. We are the only occupants of our hotel, apparently everybody else has cancelled because of the weather. It is true to say that the elements have been a little inclement, but come on, we are from the UK where weather is never a surprise and we refuse to be dictated to by it. Yesterday we walked 8 miles…so there.

Nature in all of its glory. The way the mountains come and go through the swirling clouds is magical. This is lake Bohinj, a thirty minute drive from Bled. Apparently there are spectacular waterfalls to explore, a cable car lift to experience and gorges to wonder at. It was sleeting, cold and wet, so we went ‘home’ and put the kettle on.

The car…I still haven’t figured out how to open the boot. I was advised after a conversation with a very loved one, who had of course googled this dilema, to put the so called ‘key’ in my pocket and then wave a foot under the bumper as it has a hands free boot opening feature built in. This advice saw me hopping around the carpark waggling a foot under the rear bumper with my day bag clattering against my back and my camera swinging from my neck looking as though I had escaped from the nearest ‘rest home’. I am just thankful I didn’t break an ankle. The car is French. This fact, along with all of that ‘shushing’ has done little for the ‘entente cordiale’. I am having a worry now that I won’t be able to work out how to open the petrol cap. Yes, I have looked at the manual, it is in a lanuage that I don’t recognise and there are simply not enough pictures.

Last night we turned in the right direction for the ten minute walk to the camp site whose eatery and bar was open, ours of course isn’t. We had failed at this pretty straight forward venture the previous evening as the 180 degree thing seemed to kick in again. Both occasions resulted in us finding a cosy place to eat and partake of some local beverages. The first endeavor was a 40 minute walk each way, however this didn’t seem to matter after half a carafe of the local white and we trotted back cheerfully, cheeks once again all aglow.

Spotted on the way home last night. They went swimming…we didn’t!
